Review Pousada Tauma
Nice But Expensive
Goa Hotel Resort Review - Nice But Expensive - Pousada Tauma luxury boutique hotel, beach villa house and Ayurveda spa resort.
Rating: Three Star
Three friends and I attended a work related meetings in Delhi and decided to take a short detour to Goa to relax. We are all seasoned travellers. We chose the Pousada together thanks to recommendations in Trip Advisor (which we use frequently and trust!) and in the Lonely Planet Guide which also mentions the Pousada.
Our stay there was nice, but not as outstanding as some of the other reviewers describe. Overall, it was ok but more expensive than it ought to have been for the quality of the facilities and services offered.
Things we liked: The setting (lush gardens, quiet, tucked away), Chef Andrew and his excellent cooking and friendly banter after meals, the very nice and helpful staff, the pool area, the location, fresh towels and beach towels every day...
What we liked less: - The breakfast menu is very limited. For a boutique hotel, we felt that the options could be more creative and change from day to day or at least every other day. - The rooms are expensive and very average for the price: We decided to share a room between the three of us. The room was comfortable (it was like a suite) for us. But we ended up paying 330 Euros+Tax which works out to be USD $500 per night for a very simple room! For that price we could have stayed at a luxury hotel and had more services and amenities. The aircon was old and very noisy. The windows did not have mosquito nets on them, so sleeping with windows open with the fan was not an option either. - The bathrooms leave a lot to be desired. Very average, only a little soap bar, no nice shampoos or any special touches. This does not even come close to the Zazen in Koh Samui which I have also reviewed for Trip Advisor. And that was less than half the price we paid for the room at the Pousada.
I think we would have been more satisfied with our stay if the total cost had been at least 50-60% less than what it was. But we did not feel that the price was a good value, nor the hotel very "boutique-y". Lots of special little touches could be added to make the clients feel like they were in a truely boutique location.
